This month we’re going to cover goal check-ins, our first-ever BBQ, what to expect to see from our workouts over the next few weeks, Iron Games, Dexa Body Scans and welcoming some new members!
First, a big thank you to everyone who showed up for our BBQ a few weeks ago! It was great to spend a little extra time hanging out and chatting after our workout. And props to everyone who took on the beer/ seltzer mile (even if you scaled ????). I can tell you firsthand how unpleasant that truly was but at the same time fun to shake things up a bit. This August, we will be doing our second goal check-in meetings of the year. Our hope with these is to provide you guys with more 1-on-1 time with either Mercedes, me or one of the coaches to talk about your goals and how you’re progressing in the gym. These talks can be super beneficial, even if you think everything is tracking in the right direction. Getting another set of eyes on what you’re doing can always help reveal more areas for improvement! Programming, programming, programming! August workouts will continue to focus on the Olympic lifts and our high-skill gymnastics movements. We will re-test our 1RM Clean and Jerk and Snatch, along with Randy (75 power snatches for time), Grace (30 clean and jerks for time), and Isabel (30 snatches for time) at the end of the month. The focus of our conditioning workouts will shift to a higher intensity sprint-style.
Another reminder we have the Iron Games going down in a few weeks. There is still room left in some divisions if you’re interested in competing. A group of us will also be heading down to watch and cheer on our athletes. If you want to come and hangout, let us know, and we can coordinate that as well! Home (theirongamesfitnessfestival.com)
We are also thinking about getting the Dexa Body Scan van to come in September. This scan is one of the most accurate ways to get your body fat %, bone density, and muscularity checked. it is a quick 15-minute scan, followed up with a review of your data with their technician. People who have done this scan in the past felt having access to this information allowed them to make better nutrition and training choices that ended up making a bigger difference on their body composition and fitness level. We need at least 20 people to confirm they are interested in order for Dexa to come. Last but certainly not least, I’d like to welcome our new members from July: Dana W., Todd S., Ted A., and Max C. This group of heavy hitters each brings something unique to our community from being a college athlete, being in the Army, being an avid runner, to an elite powerlifter. They all bring something special to our gym!! Chat them up and welcome them in!
