A lot of news and events to cover this month – read on for more info on the CrossFit Quarterfinals, the Reps Ahead event we will be hosting in May, our Memorial Day Murph fundraiser, the March Committed Club winner, and a few other quick hits.
The Open has come and gone, and Quarterfinals is up next! This year, we will be running the Quarterfinals workouts in classes April 18th – 21st hopefully making it easier for everyone to get the workouts done. Huge congrats to everyone who qualified for Quarterfinals by getting top 25% in their respective division in the Open. These are some fit individuals – Alec Schnitzler, Stephanie Stepp, Andy Gunther, Mercedes Brito, Tanner Stahl, Daehan Jang, Stevenson Wilson, Liv Marcheschi, Rachel Noel, Luke Robinson, Soph Robinson, Chad Andrew and Morrea Morgan. And don’t worry if you have some unfinished business with this year’s Open workouts, we will be testing them again in August to see how much our fitness progresses over the next few months.
Now onto our March Committed Club. We had 20 individuals make it to 15 classes or more in the month, and our randomly drawn winner IS… Brooke Dennis! This is very well deserved as Brooke has been a staple in our morning classes for years and years. She always brings a fun, positive attitude to class and is always willing to go out of her way to help others. Congrats, Brooke! Don’t forget to claim your gift card. Nice work to everyone else who showed some serious consistency in March: Stevie Wilson with 25 days, Taylor Smith 25, Ted Arlington 24, Liv Marcheschi 24, Jake Earl, 22, Bryan Franco, 20, Naomi Campbell 19, Soph Robinson 18, Emmily Jones 18, Luke Robinson 18, Adam Schulz 18, Heather Gefrom 17, Brynn Pollastro 17, Matt Paluso 17, Mike Tidwell 17, Jared Lake 16, Cami Jensen 16, Nicole Sthol 16, Sarah Moffitt 15.
Our annual Memorial Day Murph event/ workout is fast approaching – for our newer members, Murph is a workout us and most other CrossFit gyms around the US do every Memorial Day in honor of Michael Murphy, a Navy Seal who died in combat in 2005. This workout brings us back to the roots of CrossFit and gives us an opportunity to come together as a community and take part in something meaningful. This year we have decided to partner with Forever Fierce apparel and The Murph Challenge fundraiser. In a few weeks’ time we will make our own custom 801 Murph T-shirts available to purchase with all proceeds going to the fundraiser. This is something we have wanted to do for a long time and are excited to start an annual tradition of giving back to veterans. We are also going to do a brunch cookout after the workout as an opportunity for us all to hang out, eat some pancakes and relax after considerably the hardest workout of the year. We will have regular classes at 7:30am and 9am with the cookout to follow the 9am class. You can find more details on the fundraiser in the meantime here – About the Event – The Murph Challenge 2024
We are also very excited to be hosting a Reps Ahead event. This is a new event in the CrossFit space and we will be one of the very first gyms to host one! It entails about 20 matchups of 1 person competing against 1 other person in an AMRAP style workout. The workout ends when one person gets a certain number of reps ahead of the other… brutal. This is a super fun opportunity to get some bragging rights against a buddy at the gym. So far the matchups we’ve confirmed are Tanner versus Rachel, Mercedes Versus Alec and Soph versus Liv, with a few others in the works. We are going to be running this event on Saturday May 4th during our normal class times in the morning, so there will be no classes on that day. Let us know if you want to join in! Here is their website for more info: REPS AHEAD®
Quick hits –
Reminder we have our run club going on for the next 6 weeks on Saturdays at 7:30am. We also have our Hyrox class, taught by Natalie Scheffield, at 10:30am on Saturdays also for the next 6 weeks.
We are starting a new strength cycle in April – this cycle will focus on the overhead squat, front squat and bench press and will end of a 3-rep max in all the lifts. We will also see a focus in strict handstand pushups and rowing. In the final week of April we will start our Murph prep – so think lots of running, pushups, pullups and squats.
Last but not least, with the summer quickly approaching we are looking to see if anyone in our community is interested or knows someone interested in coming in during our 9am class to watch the kids during that hour so all our amazing moms can focus on getting a good workout. We are thinking 3-days a week to start (Mon, Wed, Fri), May through August/ September. Let us know if you’re interested and we can talk details.
Thanks for keeping up to date on all things 801. Look out for more emails with further details on all our upcoming events!
